TLDR Prices for compounded alopecia medications vary widely, with most pharmacies offering customization and delivery within a week.
The survey targeted 103 dermatological compounding pharmacies in the tri-state area to assess the pricing, availability, and delivery options of compounded topical medications for alopecia. Out of these, 76.7% (79/103) responded, providing data on 11 different formulations. The average prices for 60 g or mL ranged from $70.44 for minoxidil 5% to $4,273.20 for tofacitinib 2%. A significant 93.5% (72/77) could compound minoxidil at concentrations higher than 5%, and 67.6% (50/74) could customize minoxidil with less than 10% alcohol. Delivery to all tri-state areas was possible for 56.4% (44/78) of pharmacies, with an average delivery fee of $5.93, and 98.7% (76/77) claimed to process and deliver within a week. The survey highlights the range of options and costs for topical compounded alopecia medications, aiding clinicians and patients in making informed decisions.
