TLDR Surgical skin planing is safe and effective for treating acne scars using a freezing agent that avoids safety risks.
Surgical skin planing is a safe and effective procedure for treating cutaneous defects like pitted acne scars, especially when performed by an experienced operator. The process is enhanced by a jet-spray handpiece that allows simultaneous freezing and planing of the skin, using dichlorotetrafluoro-ethane as a freezing agent. This agent improves safety by avoiding the risks associated with ethyl chloride, such as inflammability, explosion, and toxic inhalation. Differentiating between keloid and hypertrophic scars is crucial, as proper planing does not remove cutaneous appendages, allowing healing without scarring.
