TLDR Patients with a specific genetic variant have more severe alopecia areata and higher recurrence rates.
The study investigated the clinical characteristics of alopecia areata (AA) patients with a nonsynonymous variant of the Coiled-Coil Alpha-Helical Rod Protein 1 (<i>CCHCR1</i>). It was found that patients with this variant exhibited a high recurrence rate of AA and hair morphological abnormalities. These findings suggested that the presence of the <i>CCHCR1</i> variant could be associated with more severe manifestations of AA, potentially influencing treatment outcomes and recurrence rates.
