No Effects of Statins on Improvement of Alopecia Areata: A Four Year Retrospective Cohort Study in a Metropolitan Area

TLDR Statins do not help improve alopecia areata.
A retrospective cohort study involving 6,617 patients with hair disorders found that statins do not independently predict improvement in alopecia areata (AA). The study, conducted over four years in a metropolitan healthcare system, identified age and intralesional triamcinolone acetonide injections as the best predictors of AA improvement. Despite the widespread use of statins, the data do not support their effectiveness as a therapy for AA. The study's retrospective design limits the ability to determine causality, although statistical methods were used to address this limitation.
