TLDR Adenostemma lavenia leaves have potential as a standardized medicinal herb for hair loss treatment.
The study focuses on the standardization of Adenostemma lavenia (L.) Kuntze leaves, a traditional herb used for treating baldness and hair loss, among other ailments. Despite its historical use, the herb remains under-researched. The research involved detailed pharmacognostic analysis, including macroscopy, microscopy, and histochemical studies, revealing key diagnostic features such as anisocytic stomata and various trichomes. Physicochemical analysis provided values for total ash, water-soluble ash, and extractive values. Phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins. This study lays the foundation for recognizing A. lavenia as a standardized medicinal herb.
