TLDR Taking vitamin C and vitamin E twice a day can help prevent sunburn and DNA damage from UVB exposure.
The study examined the impact of long-term oral intake of antioxidants ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and D-α-tocopherol (vitamin E) on UVB-induced skin damage in humans. Over a 3-month period, these vitamins significantly reduced the sunburn reaction to UVB exposure and decreased the amount of thymine dimers, a type of DNA damage, caused by UVB. The research concluded that taking ascorbic acid and D-α-tocopherol orally twice a day could serve as an effective and well-tolerated preventive treatment against the harmful effects of solar UV radiation.
