Association of Circulating Spexin Levels with Metabolic and Hormonal Disturbances in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Normal Controls

    The study investigated serum Spexin levels in 160 women, 80 with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and 80 healthy controls, revealing that Spexin levels were significantly lower in PCOS patients (1.85±56 ng/ml) compared to controls (2.65±50 ng/ml). This decrease in Spexin was inversely associated with adverse metabolic markers such as increased BMI, fasting blood glucose, insulin resistance, cholesterol, and triglycerides, and positively correlated with high-density lipoprotein levels. Additionally, PCOS patients exhibited higher levels of Luteinizing Hormone and Testosterone, with Luteinizing Hormone showing a negative correlation with Spexin. The findings suggest that Spexin plays a role in the metabolic and hormonal disturbances observed in PCOS.
