TLDR Slug (Snai2) helps regulate hair growth timing in mice.
The study examined the role of the transcription factor Slug (Snai2) in skin and hair follicle development in mice. Slug was expressed in the embryonic and neonatal epidermis and hair follicles, and its absence in knockout mice led to delayed skin darkening and hair emergence, suggesting its involvement in hair cycle regulation. While Slug was not crucial for adult hair follicle development and maintenance, its expression was modulated over time and space, indicating a modest but distinct role in the hair cycle.
