TLDR Most patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus experience fatigue, skin issues, and joint pain.
The study reviewed medical records of 966 patients diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) at the Royal Hospital in Oman from 2006 to 2014, finding that the majority were female (88.7%) with a mean age of 27.6 years. Common initial symptoms included fatigue (35.22%) and weight changes (13.43%), with prevalent cutaneous manifestations such as hair loss (39.29%), malar rash (37.69%), and photosensitivity (35.10%). Musculoskeletal issues like arthralgia (68.75%) and myalgia (55.65%) were also frequent. The study emphasized the need for nationwide and regional collaboration to improve SLE reporting and management. Additionally, the document reviewed various studies on SLE's initial presentations, highlighting diverse clinical manifestations and the importance of early diagnosis and tailored treatment strategies.
