TLDR Flat feet in obese individuals may indicate metabolic syndrome.
The study conducted in Ogbomoso, Nigeria, examined the relationship between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and skin disorders in 197 adults. It found that 32.9% of participants had MetS, with a higher prevalence in females. Significant skin disorders associated with MetS included flat feet and striae, which were linked to central obesity. Flat feet were notably associated with higher cholesterol levels and predicted the odds of MetS by 2.2 times. The study concluded that flat feet could indicate underlying MetS in obese individuals, and recommended MetS screenings for obese patients with flat feet.
