TLDR Topical minoxidil can cause serious heart issues in children.
This case report described a 9-year-old girl who developed sinus node dysfunction after using topical minoxidil for alopecia. Despite normal initial cardiac assessments, a 24-hour Holter monitor revealed asystolic attacks lasting 4 to 6 seconds, accompanied by syncope. The sinus node dysfunction was likely related to minoxidil, as assessed by the Naranjo adverse drug reaction probability tool. After discontinuing minoxidil, the patient's sinus node function normalized, and she was monitored without the need for a permanent pacemaker. The report highlighted the potential for serious cardiac side effects in pediatric patients using minoxidil, emphasizing the need for careful monitoring.
