TLDR Low SHBG levels are linked to negative health outcomes and should be used in assessing and managing health conditions.
Recent research has highlighted the significant role of Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) in managing metabolic and reproductive disorders. A review of 62 studies involving 127,771 subjects found that lower SHBG levels are consistently associated with adverse reproductive, metabolic, and cardiovascular outcomes across conditions like type-2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. These findings suggest that SHBG should be considered a valuable marker in clinical practice for assessing and managing various health conditions.
