Studysummary This study concluded that bitter melon leaf ethanol extract can be effectively formulated into a shampoo that meets quality standards and promotes rabbit hair growth. Our plain-language summary of this paper — not a Tressless recommendation.
The study investigated the formulation of a shampoo using 96% ethanol extract of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) leaves and its effect on hair growth in rabbits. The shampoo was prepared in concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15%, and evaluated for homogeneity, pH, organoleptic properties, foam height, viscosity, and irritation. The results showed that all formulations were homogeneous, with the highest pH at 5.56 and the highest foam height and viscosity in the 15% concentration. No irritation was observed. The hair growth test indicated that the 15% concentration had the most significant effect on rabbit hair growth, suggesting that bitter melon leaf extract could be effectively formulated into a shampoo that promotes hair growth.
