Serum Progranulin and Insulin Resistance Evaluation in Male Androgenetic Alopecia Patients

TLDR AGA patients have higher insulin resistance and serum progranulin levels, suggesting a link to metabolic issues.
This study evaluated serum progranulin (PGRN) and insulin resistance (IR) in 60 male patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) compared to 20 healthy controls. The results showed that AGA patients had significantly higher levels of fasting insulin, HOMA-IR, and serum PGRN compared to the control group. The findings suggest that PGRN plays a critical role in contributing to IR and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in AGA patients. The study recommends close long-term follow-up and early detection of IR and MetS for better management of AGA.
