TLDR Low vitamin D levels may affect ovulation and progesterone in infertile women.
This retrospective study involving 86 infertile women found a significant positive correlation between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels and mid-luteal progesterone levels, suggesting that adequate vitamin D levels may enhance ovulation and improve fertility outcomes. Women with anovulatory cycles had significantly lower vitamin D levels compared to those with ovulatory cycles. The study highlights the potential importance of maintaining normal vitamin D levels for reproductive health and suggests that vitamin D deficiency should be considered in cases of infertility of unknown etiology and progesterone-related disorders. Despite limitations such as its small sample size and single-institution setting, the findings underscore the potential benefits of vitamin D supplementation in managing infertility.
