TLDR Iron deficiency is linked to female pattern hair loss.
This study investigated the role of serotonin, ferritin, and hematological profiles in female pattern hair loss (FPHL) by comparing 65 FPHL patients with 65 healthy controls. The results showed that FPHL patients had significantly lower serum ferritin levels and reduced hematological indices, indicating subclinical iron deficiency, while no significant differences were found in serotonin levels or renal function markers. The findings suggest that iron deficiency is associated with FPHL, whereas serotonin and renal function do not significantly contribute. The study highlights the importance of assessing iron status in women with hair loss for clinical relevance and further research.
