TLDR Seborrheic keratoses may partly come from hair follicle cells.
In a study of 325 seborrheic keratoses, trichostasis spinulosa was identified in 54 cases within keratinous cysts and between papillomatous surface keratin, as well as in adjacent hair follicles. Both conditions were more common in older individuals. Trichostasis spinulosa served as a marker for vellus hair follicles, suggesting that some seborrheic keratoses might incorporate and partially originate from the cells of the follicle's infundibular portion.
