TLDR Many women with seborrheic dermatitis also have acne and diabetes, and should be checked for these conditions to help improve their quality of life.
The study conducted on 451 adolescent and adult female patients diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis aimed to assess the prevalence of the condition and its associated cutaneous and systemic comorbidities. The majority of the participants (87%) were aged between 21-30 years. The study found that 60.9% of the participants had cutaneous comorbidities, with acne being the most common (13.3%). Systemic comorbidities were found in 28.3% of the participants, with diabetes mellitus being the most common (13.1%). Other common cutaneous comorbidities included alopecia areata and folliculitis, while systemic comorbidities included obesity and hypertension. However, these comorbidities were not statistically significant. The study concluded that screening for these comorbidities in patients with seborrheic dermatitis is important for simultaneous treatment and improving patients' quality of life.
