TLDR Four keratin genes are crucial for hair growth in Xinji fine wool sheep.
The study investigated genes related to hair follicle development in Xinji fine wool sheep by analyzing expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from their skin tissues. Using Trinity and Blat for gene screening and Real-time PCR for expression analysis, four genes (KRT27, KAP3.2, KAP11.1, and KAP8.1) were identified as crucial for hair follicle development. These keratin genes were significantly more expressed in super fine wool sheep compared to fine wool sheep (P<0.01). The expression levels were ranked as KRT27 > KAP3.2 > KAP11.1 > KAP8.1. This research contributed data on the transcript levels of keratin genes in fine wool sheep.
