TLDR Scenedesmus deserticola JD052 extracts may help hair growth and could be a natural treatment for hair loss.
The study examines the effects of Scenedesmus deserticola JD052 extracts on hair growth by focusing on the AKT and GSK3β/β-catenin signaling pathways in human dermal papilla cells. The heterotrophic extract (HE) was more effective than the photoautotrophic extract (PE) in enhancing hair-inductive properties, increasing cell viability, spheroid size, and activating β-catenin signaling. HE treatment also upregulated growth factors and dermal papilla signature genes, promoting keratinocyte migration and hair growth. The study suggests that these extracts could be a promising natural treatment for hair loss, although further research is needed to validate these findings in animal and human models.
