TLDR Proper treatment and sanitation can cure and prevent scabiosis in domestic cats.
Scabiosis in domestic cats, caused by Sarcoptes scabiei and Notoedres cati mites, leads to symptoms like pruritus, alopecia, erythema, and crusting lesions. Diagnosis involves clinical and hematological examinations, revealing leukocytosis and the presence of mites. Treatment includes ivermectin (0.4 mg/kg subcutaneously, bi-weekly for 1 month), diphenhydramine HCI (1 mg/kg subcutaneously, weekly for 1 month), Nutri-Plus Gel, fish oil, and sulfur-containing shampoo. The therapy resulted in hair regrowth and lesion resolution. Maintaining environmental sanitation is crucial to prevent recurrence.
