TLDR Steroid treatment greatly improved the symptoms of a boy with a rare disorder called Satoyoshi syndrome.
A 14-year-old boy with Satoyoshi syndrome, a rare multisystem disorder with fewer than 50 reported cases worldwide, exhibited alopecia, muscle spasms, and skeletal abnormalities. Despite extensive testing, no alternative diagnosis was found. The syndrome is believed to involve immune dysregulation. Unlike some cases, this patient did not respond to intravenous immunoglobulin therapy but showed a dramatic improvement with steroid treatment.
