Clinical Features of Respiratory Diseases Caused by SARS-CoV-2 in Children from Western Belarus

    TLDR Urban children in western Belarus had more severe COVID-19 cases in 2021.
    The study analyzed clinical features of respiratory diseases caused by SARS-CoV-2 in 1,371 children from western Belarus, treated at Grodno Regional Children's Clinical Hospital between May 2020 and December 2021. The average treatment duration increased from 7.8 days in 2020 to 10.2 days in 2021. Urban children constituted 72% of cases, with family contact being the most common source of infection (75%). In 2021, rapid tests confirmed more infections (79%) compared to 2020. Intensive care was required for 11% of children in 2020 and 21% in 2021. The study concluded that urban children were more frequently affected, with a more severe disease course observed in 2021.
