TLDR Pacing tawar leaves may help treat itching, insect bites, and promote hair growth.
The study on the ethanol extract of pacing tawar leaves (Costus speciosus) identified the presence of several bioactive compounds, including alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and steroids, while flavonoids were absent. These compounds were detected through phytochemical screening, with specific tests indicating positive results: a dark pink color for alkaloids, 2 cm high foam for saponins, a dark green color for tannins, and a faint red ring for steroids. The findings suggest that pacing tawar leaves have potential for development as natural medicinal ingredients, particularly for applications in treating itching, insect bites, and promoting hair growth.
