TLDR Samcyprone ointment is effective for treating common warts if a sensitization reaction occurs first.
In a phase 2a clinical study, RXi Pharmaceuticals evaluated Samcyprone, a proprietary ointment formulation of diphenylcyclopropenone (DPCP), for the treatment of common warts. The study involved subjects with at least one wart present for a minimum of four weeks, who underwent a sensitization dose followed by weekly treatments for 10 weeks. The efficacy of the treatment was measured using the Investigators Global Assessment Score (IGAS) and wart size, while safety was assessed through Immunotherapeutic Skin Response Scores. The results indicated that a sensitization reaction was necessary for a therapeutic response, but the intensity of the reaction did not predict the effectiveness of wart clearance.
