Safety of Platelet-Rich Plasma Subepithelial Infusion for Vocal Fold Scar, Sulcus, and Atrophy

    This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for treating vocal fold atrophy and scars in 12 patients, with a total of 43 injections administered. The results indicated that PRP injections were safe, with no significant inflammatory reactions or adverse events reported. Patients experienced significant improvements in voice quality, as evidenced by decreased Voice Handicap Index-10 (VHI-10) and Voice Fatigue Index (VFI) scores, and reported subjective improvements in voice quality, loudness, and endurance. The study suggested that PRP injections could be a promising treatment modality for vocal fold conditions, offering a safe alternative to existing therapies, although the long-term efficacy and durability of the treatment were not fully established.
