TLDR Vitiligo patients have higher risks of autoimmune diseases, infections, and skin cancer.
This retrospective cohort study analyzed data from 15,047 vitiligo patients and 75,231 matched controls in the US, revealing that vitiligo patients had higher baseline rates of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, infections, malignancies, and other conditions compared to controls. Post-diagnosis, vitiligo patients showed increased incidence rates of autoimmune conditions, infections, hearing-related events, and skin cancer. The study also found higher vitiligo prevalence and incidence in Asian and Hispanic populations. These findings highlight important safety considerations and epidemiological insights for vitiligo patients, although results should be cautiously interpreted due to dataset limitations.
