TLDR Rosemary essential oil is rich in terpenes and can be effectively extracted and analyzed using environmentally friendly methods, benefiting local economies.
This study explores the extraction of rosemary essential oil using vacuum-assisted hydrodistillation, a solventless and environmentally friendly technique. The essential oil, rich in terpenes, was characterized using Solid Phase Micro Extraction (SPME) and Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Two locally sourced rosemary samples were analyzed, revealing that the essential oils were entirely composed of terpenes or their derivatives. The study found that SPME was superior to direct injection, as it identified a larger number of volatile compounds. This method enhances the value of rosemary products, potentially benefiting local economies in regions like Uzbekistan.
