TLDR Rosemary essential oil can be used in a stable massage cream, with the oil to water ratio affecting its properties.
In 2019, Rizki Affandi conducted a study to create and assess the stability of an aromatherapy massage cream using rosemary essential oil with a milk cream base. Rosemary oil was chosen due to its potential benefits, including accelerating blood circulation, reducing cholesterol, relaxing muscles, eliminating dandruff, and aiding hair loss. The study involved the creation of three cream formulas, each containing 0.5g of rosemary essential oil, and one blank formula without the oil. The creams were tested for homogeneity, stability, spreadability, pH, stickiness, preference, and irritation. The results showed that the formulation F3 had the smallest deviation in some tests, while F1 was the most preferred. The study concluded that rosemary essential oil can be formulated into an aromatherapy massage cream, and the ratio of oil to water phase influences the physical properties of the cream, including dispersion and adhesion.
