TLDR Rosemary extract hair tonic is a safe and effective natural alternative for promoting hair growth.
The study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of a hair tonic with rosemary extract on hair growth using 15 male Wistar rats over 28 days. The tonic was formulated with rosemary extract concentrations of 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%, with 2% minoxidil as a positive control. Results showed that rosemary extract promoted dose-dependent hair growth, with the 15% formulation achieving the highest hair length (16.73 ± 1.97 mm) by week 4, surpassing minoxidil (10.02 ± 1.83 mm). The 10% concentration resulted in the highest hair weight (87.08 ± 30.87 mg/cm²), indicating thicker and stronger hair. All formulations met SNI standards with pH levels of 4.18-4.75. Rosemary formulations caused no side effects, while minoxidil led to dryness and skin irritation in one test animal. GC-MS analysis identified β-myrcene and 1,8-cineole as major components with beneficial properties. The study concluded that rosemary extract hair tonic is a safe and effective natural alternative to synthetic hair growth products.
