TLDR Low zinc levels in hair and serum are linked to chronic hair loss.
The study conducted at the Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi, from April 2017 to May 2018, involved 100 subjects, 50 of whom were diagnosed with chronic telogen effluvium (group A) and 50 healthy controls (group B). The research found that there were significantly lower levels of zinc in both the hair and serum samples of the patients in group A compared to those in group B. Furthermore, a positive significant association was observed between the level of zinc in hair and its concentration in the serum of subjects in both groups. The study concluded that low levels of zinc in hair and serum are associated with chronic telogen effluvium.
