TLDR PRP may help hair growth in alopecia areata without major side effects, but more research is needed.
Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune disease causing hair loss, with treatments typically involving immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory agents that have significant side effects. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has shown promise in promoting hair growth in AA patients without causing allergic reactions, through mechanisms such as epidermal proliferation, angiogenesis, and stimulation of follicular bulge cells. However, further randomized clinical trials and long-term studies are needed to confirm PRP's efficacy in treating AA.
