This study used RNA-Seq analysis to investigate differential gene expression during hair follicle development in Angora goats, focusing on the Eskisehir and Lalahan varieties. It analyzed 72 skin samples across the anagen, catagen, and telogen phases, identifying significant differences in gene expression between these phases and between male and female goats. Notably, the anagen phase had the highest number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs), with specific keratin-associated protein genes showing high expression levels, particularly in Eskisehir females. The study highlighted the influence of sex hormones and breed-specific differences, suggesting potential regulatory mechanisms and pathways, such as the TNF and MAPK signaling pathways, involved in hair growth. These findings provide insights into the molecular mechanisms of hair growth and could inform breeding strategies to enhance mohair quality and production.
