TLDR Genetics, nutrition, lifestyle, and hormones affect early grey hair, but more research is needed.
The document explores various risk factors for premature greying of hair (PGH) in young adults, highlighting genetic influences, particularly paternal history, as a significant factor. Nutritional deficiencies, such as low levels of vitamin B12, calcium, ferritin, and copper, are linked to PGH, while deficiencies in T3 and T4 hormones are associated with changes in hair pigmentation and morphology. Lifestyle factors, including sedentary habits, smoking, stress, and atopic diathesis, also contribute to PGH. Interestingly, regular hair oil application may offer some protection. Despite the use of supplements like biotin and calcium pantothenate, results have been unsatisfactory, indicating a need for further research to better understand and manage PGH.
