TLDR Vaccination and timely treatment reduce the risk of long COVID.
This study analyzed 28,375 non-hospitalized adult patients in Dubai with mild to moderate COVID-19 to identify risk factors for long COVID and the impact of pre-COVID vaccination and treatments. It found that 2.8% of patients experienced long COVID symptoms, with higher risks among younger, female, and Caucasian individuals. Common symptoms included fatigue, muscle pain, respiratory and neurological issues, allergic reactions, skin rashes, and hair loss. Risk factors included diabetes, asthma, and Vitamin D deficiency. Pre-COVID vaccination and treatments like favipiravir and sotrovimab during the acute phase were associated with a reduced risk of long COVID. The study highlights the importance of vaccination and timely treatment in mitigating long COVID risks.
