Smoking was identified as an independent risk factor for prolonged recovery, while factors like sex, age, and comorbidities were not. The study proposed therapeutic options, including inhaled budesonide and herbal medications, but noted limitations such as a small sample size and lack of data on the Omicron variant and vaccination effects. The study emphasized the need for early intervention, smoking cessation, and further research to understand long COVID, treating it as a distinct disease from the common cold or flu.
