TLDR Older, obese people with many COVID-19 symptoms are more likely to suffer from severe long-term COVID-19 effects.
The observational study conducted on 220 participants aged 18-89 years, with 108 confirmed COVID-19 cases, found that individuals over 45 years old, obese, and with more than 15 COVID-19 symptoms are at a higher risk of developing severe long COVID-19. The study also revealed that obesity was a significant predictor of severe long COVID-19, even in the absence of other comorbidities. The severity of the disease and its spread in the lungs were found to be proportional to the number of chronic symptoms a patient experiences. The study emphasized the importance of understanding these factors to provide adequate support to patients with severe long COVID-19.
