TLDR Finasteride reduces bleeding risk during prostate surgery.
The study investigated the effect of finasteride on reducing intra-operative bleeding during transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). It focused on evaluating the role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and CD34, which are markers associated with blood vessel formation and density. The findings suggested that finasteride, a medication commonly used for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia and hair loss, was effective in decreasing the risk of bleeding during the surgical procedure. This was attributed to its impact on reducing the expression of VEGF and CD34, thereby potentially minimizing blood vessel formation and density in the prostate tissue.
