TLDR Rice water may help reduce skin aging.
The study investigated the anti-aging properties of rice water, particularly its antioxidant and anti-elastase activities. Rice water, especially when prepared by boiling whole rice grains (RWB), demonstrated significant antioxidant activity comparable to ascorbic acid and inhibited elastase activity, suggesting its potential as a skincare ingredient. A rice water gel was tested on 12 volunteers over 28 days, showing positive effects on skin hydration and lipid levels, although the hydration improvement was not statistically significant. Despite its traditional use, the study noted a lack of scientific evidence supporting rice water's skin benefits, but it highlighted its promise as a natural and economical anti-aging skincare ingredient.
