TLDR The book provides useful information on facial surgery complications but lacks consistent visuals and has some repetition.
The November 2013 issue of Facial Plastic Surgery Clinics of North America, edited by Drs. Goode and Most, is a compilation of review articles on complications in facial plastic surgery. It includes 12 chapters covering both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, with a focus on the root cause, prevention, and treatment of complications. The volume is particularly useful for residents, fellows, and surgeons seeking current reviews of procedure-specific problem-solving. It features well-formatted articles with helpful tables and operative pictures or graphics in some chapters, notably on blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, and otoplasty. However, the book's weakness lies in the inconsistent and sometimes limited use of diagrams, photo-documentation, and tables, which could have enhanced its utility. There is also some repetition, particularly in the chapters on neurotoxins and fillers. Despite these shortcomings, the publication is recommended for its articles on anesthesia-related complications, lasers/fillers, blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, otoplasty, and hair restoration, although for topics like facelifts, facial trauma, and forehead lifts, more informative texts may be found elsewhere. The book received a rating of 3 out of 5.
