TLDR Independent pharmacies generally offer lower prices for certain generic urologic medications than chain pharmacies.
The study investigated retail pricing for generic urologic medications in the St. Louis area, considering pharmacy type, zip-code, and median income. Data from 152 chain and 16 independent pharmacies across 51 zip-codes were analyzed. Results showed that pricing did not vary based on zip-code, median income, or their combination. However, independent pharmacies had significantly lower prices for tamsulosin 0.4 mg, and oxybutynin ER 5 mg and 10 mg compared to chain pharmacies. The study concluded that while there was wide variability in retail pricing, it was significantly influenced by the type of pharmacy rather than location or income factors.

community Why is everyone not directly advised Dutasteride?

      in Finasteride/Dutasteride  165 upvotes 1 month ago
Dutasteride is less commonly prescribed for hair loss because it is not FDA-approved for this purpose, unlike finasteride, which is more accessible and preferred due to fewer side effects. Dutasteride may be more effective in reducing DHT but has a longer half-life and potentially more significant side effects.

Dutasteride is associated with increased blood glucose, HbA1c, LDL cholesterol, and liver enzyme activity, potentially leading to diabetes, NAFLD, and liver metabolism changes. The conversation highlights concerns about these adverse effects and calls for more studies, including on finasteride.
