TLDR Removing an adrenal tumor can significantly reduce high androgen levels in postmenopausal women.
A 61-year-old postmenopausal woman with a 10-year history of virilizing symptoms, including generalized hirsutism, clitoromegaly, irritability, and voice deepening, was found to have a 1.5 cm androgen-secreting adrenal tumor. The tumor was successfully removed via laparoscopic total adrenalectomy, resulting in a significant drop in androgen levels. This case highlights the importance of considering adrenal androgen-secreting tumors in the differential diagnosis of postmenopausal hyperandrogenism and underscores the need for regular hormonal follow-up.
