TLDR Using a patient's own tissue for micro-grafts may effectively treat non-healing leg ulcers and relieve pain.
The study from 2016 investigated the use of autologous micro-grafts in treating 7 non-healing leg ulcers across 5 patients. These micro-grafts, which included progenitor cells and growth factors, were created using a device that disaggregated the patient's own tissue. The results showed that all treated ulcers exhibited improved healing from the first week up to one month after the injection, and all patients experienced complete pain relief. The findings indicated that autologous micro-grafts could be an effective treatment for leg ulcers resistant to standard therapies, prompting the need for further studies to understand the healing mechanisms involved.
