TLDR Different treatments help heal leg ulcers depending on their type, with new therapies showing promise for chronic wounds.
The article discussed various adjunctive treatments for leg ulcers, emphasizing the importance of addressing underlying causes and using compression therapy for venous ulcers. Additional treatments included leg elevation, multi-layered dressings, and surgical management for venous ulcers; smoking cessation and revascularization for arterial ulcers; off-loading pressure and topical growth factors for neuropathic ulcers; and off-loading pressure and adequate nutrition for pressure ulcers. Diabetic patients benefited from improved glycemic control. Advanced therapies such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), electrical stimulation, and ultrasound therapy showed promise in enhancing wound healing. Nutrition, particularly vitamins and trace elements, played a crucial role in wound healing. Stem cells, especially adipose-derived stromal cells, were highlighted for their potential in future leg ulcer treatments.
