TLDR Botox injections may be a safe and effective way to treat severe, itchy skin disease when other treatments fail.
Fox-Fordyce disease (FFD) is a chronic, pruritic condition affecting apocrine-rich areas, predominantly in young adult women, with no satisfactory treatment options. This case study reports a 30-year-old woman with a 7-year history of refractory FFD who experienced significant improvement after a single session of intradermal botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) injections. The treatment reduced pruritus from 10/10 to 2/10 on the Visual Analogue Scale and decreased the number of papules, with effects lasting up to 6 months. BTX-A appears to be a promising and safe treatment for FFD, although cost and availability are limiting factors.
