TLDR The modified skin board with channels improves skin graft knife performance.
The research paper discusses a refinement made to the conventional skin board used in skin grafting procedures. Skin boards are wooden boards used to flatten the skin surface and ease the passage of the skin knife underneath the skin. The conventional skin boards scrape away most of the lubricant used on the skin, which is necessary for the easy movement of the knife. The researchers have modified the conventional skin board by adding small channels on the surface of the board, allowing the lubricant to pass through the board and remain on the skin. This modification does not reduce the skin board's capacity to stretch the skin and provides a flat smooth surface for the skin knife to pass. The modified skin board was used in one patient, and it was found that it greatly improves the performance of the skin graft knife.
