TLDR Careful planning and skilled surgery can make hair replacement safe and effective.
Hair replacement surgery (HRS) is a popular and effective solution for hair loss, but it does come with potential complications, often due to insufficient surgical planning or questionable techniques. A thorough preoperative evaluation is crucial for a successful outcome. The most common form of alopecia treatable by surgery is Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA), but other causes should also be considered. Complications can include bleeding, wound dehiscence, Telogen effluvium, nerve injury, folliculitis, cysts, ingrown hairs, low graft survival, and poor cosmetic outcome. However, these risks can be mitigated with careful planning, patient evaluation, and skilled surgical techniques. Postoperative care is also important to prevent graft dislodgement. Despite the potential complications, HRS remains a safe procedure with low risks when performed by a skilled surgeon and team.
