TLDR Cronkhite-Canada syndrome is rare, with high mortality and cancer risk, needing more research for treatment guidelines.
Cronkhite-Canada syndrome (CCS) is a rare, non-inherited disorder characterized by gastrointestinal polyps, chronic diarrhea, alopecia, and other symptoms. This case report discusses a 37-year-old African American woman with CCS who presented with iron deficiency anemia, hair thinning, and other symptoms. Diagnostic procedures revealed abnormal stomach mucosa and a mass in the colon, leading to a CCS diagnosis. The patient underwent surgery and was treated with systemic steroids. CCS has a high mortality rate and increased colorectal cancer risk, but due to its rarity, there are no established guidelines for cancer surveillance or treatment, highlighting the need for further research.
