TLDR Low-Level Light Therapy improves quality of life more for women than men with hair loss.
The study evaluated the impact of Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in 36 men and 35 women with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Participants completed the Skindex-29 questionnaire before and after 24 LLLT sessions. Results showed that women experienced significant improvements in HRQoL, particularly in emotional, psychosocial, and symptom domains, while men showed moderate improvements, especially in emotional aspects. LLLT was associated with enhanced HRQoL, with a more pronounced effect on women, highlighting its potential as a beneficial treatment for AGA due to its cost-effectiveness, ease of application, and lack of side effects.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
