TLDR Early diagnosis of pseudopelade of Brocq in men is crucial to prevent permanent hair loss.
This case report discusses a rare instance of Pseudopelade of Brocq (PPB) in a 21-year-old male, highlighting its presentation as slowly progressive, irregular patches of atrophy on the scalp's vertex. The patient had no systemic or cutaneous illnesses, and a scalp biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. Treatment with topical corticosteroids and tacrolimus ointment halted disease progression after 3 months. PPB is a form of cicatricial alopecia characterized by permanent hair loss due to follicular destruction and fibrosis. The report emphasizes the need for further research into the pathogenesis and treatment of PPB, as it is more common in females and lacks a standard treatment protocol.
